Typeform vs Jotform vs SurveyMonkey: Jotform 6.5, Typeform 5.8, SurveyMonkey 4.9; 1,000 unbranded responses cost $34 to $139 a month

We read the pricing, trust, legal, help center and developer pages of three form and survey builders on the same day and scored them on the same six indicators. What 1,000 responses a month without branding cost, what happens at a response limit, where HIPAA, EU storage and SSO sit, and who should pick which.

On this page9 sections

On six indicators read from each vendor's public pages, Jotform scores 6.5 out of 10, Typeform 5.8 and SurveyMonkey 4.9. For our reference scenario, one account collecting 1,000 responses a month on forms without the vendor's branding, billed annually, Jotform Bronze costs $34 a month, Typeform Plus $56 and SurveyMonkey Premier Annual $139. Jotform stands out for putting every standard feature on every plan and a self-serve HIPAA BAA on Gold; Typeform for logic, export and the API on every plan and SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 in its own name; SurveyMonkey for analysis built into the survey tool, the same two audits, and plans that keep collecting past their allowance at $0.15 a response.

Jotform is in the Good band, and Typeform and SurveyMonkey are in the Fair band: Typeform mostly because of a small free plan and pages that disagree on several prices, SurveyMonkey mostly because of the scenario price and the free plan. The scores measure what the public pages commit to, not how well each product works or how many people finish a form, and we did not sign up for any of them.

What the public pages show

Typeform sells plans with a monthly response allowance and unlimited forms: Basic $28 a month for 100 responses and one user, Plus $56 for 1,000 responses and 3 seats, Business $91 for 10,000 responses and 5 seats, billed yearly, or $39, $79 and $129 month to month. The free plan collects 10 responses a month with logic, the API and export. Branding is removed from Plus. HIPAA, EU hosting, SAML SSO, custom domains and the audit log are on Enterprise.

Jotform sells one feature set in plans that differ by limits: forms, monthly submissions, views, upload space and stored submissions. The free plan includes logic, payments, uploads, e-signatures and translations within 5 forms and 100 submissions a month. Bronze ($408 a year) removes the branding and allows 1,000 submissions a month; Gold ($1,188) adds HIPAA features with a BAA signed in the account. Plans below Enterprise are for one user.

SurveyMonkey sells individual plans (Standard Monthly $99 a month, Advantage $552 a year, Premier $1,668 a year) and team plans per user from 3 users, each with a response allowance and $0.15 per extra response. Payments and file uploads start on Advantage; removing the SurveyMonkey footer starts on Premier. SAML SSO, HIPAA, the EU data center and private API apps are on Enterprise. Its pricing pages show another currency from our location, so its US prices come from Internet Archive copies served to US visitors.

Strengths and things to know

Typeform. Strengths: logic, CSV or XLSX export and the API on every plan, Free included; payments, uploads and a partial submit point from Basic; its own SOC 2 Type II report and ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certificate; response tiers you can buy when a month runs over. Things to know: branding stays on Basic; forms switch to private at the limit unless you buy a tier, and auto-upgrade is on by default after checkout; the compliance options sit on Enterprise; and the help center and plan table disagree on a few prices and plans.

Jotform. Strengths: the broadest free plan of the three; the lowest scenario price; no Jotform fee on payments; a HIPAA BAA on Gold without a sales call; EU storage as an account setting. Things to know: one user per plan below Enterprise; forms are disabled at a monthly limit and the oldest entries are deleted when stored submissions are full; the SOC 2 Type II report covers a dedicated Enterprise environment; and unfinished submissions are kept only through Save and Continue Later.

SurveyMonkey. Strengths: crosstabs, significance testing, multi-survey and AI analysis and SPSS export; collection that continues past the allowance at a published price; SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. Things to know: the free plan shows 25 responses per survey and has no export; removing the footer needs Premier; Advantage and Premier are sold on annual terms only; and SSO, HIPAA, EU hosting and deployed API apps need Enterprise.

Pricing reality

Reference scenario: one account collecting 1,000 responses a month on forms without the vendor's branding, on the cheapest plan that allows both, billed annually, at US list prices before tax.

Service Plan Monthly cost Where the number comes from
Jotform Bronze $34 Computed: $408 a year ÷ 12; 1,000 submissions a month, branding removable from Bronze
Typeform Plus $56 Plan card, billed yearly ($672 a year, computed; the price feed behind the page lists $663); Basic keeps the branding and has 100 responses
SurveyMonkey Premier Annual $139 Computed: $1,668 a year ÷ 12; 40,000 responses a year, the first individual plan without the footer

Branding moves the number more than volume. Without that condition, the cheapest plans covering 1,000 responses a month would be Jotform Bronze ($34), SurveyMonkey Advantage Annual ($552 a year, or $46 a month, with a subtle footer) and still Typeform Plus ($56), because Basic's response tiers stop at 750 (our arithmetic). Month to month, the scenario plans cost $39 on Jotform and $79 on Typeform; SurveyMonkey sells Premier only on annual terms.

How each one handles a busy month also differs: Typeform forms go private at the allowance unless you buy a higher tier, Jotform forms are disabled until the reset or an upgrade, and SurveyMonkey keeps collecting and bills $0.15 for each extra response, so 200 responses over the allowance would add $30 (our arithmetic).

How we scored them

Every product in this category is scored on the same six indicators, read from the vendor's own pricing, trust, legal, help center and developer pages, with fixed formulas. The overall score is the plain mean. Our methodology page explains how these scores work.

Indicator Typeform Jotform SurveyMonkey
Pricing clarity 4 7 4
Free plan 3.7 7.3 3.7
Price for 1,000 responses 4.6 6.2 1.8
Form and collection features 8.6 6.6 8.6
Compliance and data residency 6.5 5.5 6.5
Team, API and data export 7.2 6.2 4.5
Overall 5.8 6.5 4.9

Jotform leads on the free plan and the scenario price, and on pricing clarity, where its pages leave out or contradict fewer prices and plan details than the other two. Typeform and SurveyMonkey lead on collection features and on compliance, both with SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 in their own name. Jotform scores lower on collection features because custom domains are on Enterprise and unfinished submissions are not saved automatically, and on team features because shared editing, SSO and the audit log are on Enterprise; its self-serve HIPAA BAA and EU storage setting keep its compliance score close. SurveyMonkey's lower overall score comes mostly from the scenario price, a small free plan, and an API that needs Enterprise to deploy.

Also in this category

Tally scores 7.1: unlimited forms and submissions free under fair use, with logic, payments, uploads and the API, and Pro at $290 a year ($24.17 a month) with custom domains, partial submissions and unlimited team members; data is stored in Europe, while SOC 2 and ISO 27001 are in progress and HIPAA and SSO are not offered. Fillout scores 7.0: 1,000 free responses a month and unlimited seats on every plan, with branding removed on Pro at $480 a year ($40 a month), partial submissions and a custom domain on Business, and EU hosting on its Team plan.

Who should choose which

  • Choose Jotform if one person runs your forms and you want every standard feature, the lowest price for 1,000 submissions without branding, or a HIPAA BAA without a sales call. Look elsewhere if several people need to edit forms below an Enterprise contract.
  • Choose Typeform if you want interactive forms with logic and export on every plan, three seats on Plus, and SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 in Typeform's own name. Look elsewhere if you need HIPAA, EU hosting or SSO without an enterprise contract.
  • Choose SurveyMonkey if you run research or feedback surveys and want analysis, crosstabs and SPSS export in the same tool, with collection that continues past the allowance. Look elsewhere if you want branding removed on a low-cost plan.

Bottom line

From public pages alone, Jotform gives the most for the money of these three: every standard feature on every plan, branding removed for $34 a month on annual terms and a self-serve HIPAA BAA, on one-user plans. Typeform costs more for the same 1,000 responses but adds three seats and its own audits. SurveyMonkey is the survey-analysis option, with the highest price for an unbranded survey and published overage instead of a hard stop.

How we checked

We read the vendors' pricing pages and plan tables, pricing FAQs, trust and security pages, legal terms, help center articles and developer docs on Oct 16, 2026. Typeform's plan cards are filled in by script, so we read the USD price feed they load, which matches the page's structured data. SurveyMonkey's pricing pages show another currency from our location, so its US dollar prices come from Internet Archive copies served to US visitors (individual plans Jul 13, 2026; team plans Oct 8, 2026). We did not sign up, start a trial, submit a form or call an API. Facts the pages did not state, such as the price of HIPAA on Typeform's and SurveyMonkey's enterprise plans, are left out rather than guessed. Every figure is on the vendors' pages as of that date or, where marked, computed from them.
