Review
Review from public pages
Written from Proton for Business's public pages (pricing, security or privacy, and docs) as read on Oct 16, 2026. We did not sign up, and no hands-on run is published yet.
What the public pages show
We read Proton's business pricing and plans pages, the business features, trust and healthcare pages, the terms, DPA, BAA model and privacy policy, and support articles on business plans, the free trial, storage, add-ons, custom domains, catch-all, groups, retention, the organization and activity monitors, two-factor authentication, Easy Switch, the Export Tool, Bridge, sending limits and subscriptions on Oct 16, 2026; we did not start a trial or call an API. The pricing page offered US dollars from our location through its currency selector, and the exact per-cycle prices come from the plan data embedded in the page.
The pricing pages are clear: three self-serve plans with annual and monthly prices, add-on prices for extra domains, Scribe and Lumo Plus, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. The annual discount badges compare against the monthly prices; no introductory price is shown.
Some support articles lag behind the pricing page. The business FAQ still says 15 addresses per user where the pricing page says 20, the add-ons article gives Workspace Standard meetings 50 participants where the pricing page says 100, the trial article calls the guarantee a prorated refund while the terms say a full refund, and the two activity monitor articles name different plans. The groups article says Proton Mail does not yet support SSO or SCIM.
Strengths
- Encrypted mail by default
End-to-end encryption on every plan, password-protected mail to outside recipients and PGP support, with no add-on.
Compared: Fastmail does not offer end-to-end encryption in its own apps; Microsoft 365 lists message encryption on Business Premium.
- Docs, Sheets and recorded meetings in Workspace Standard
Workspace Standard ($12.99, annual) includes 1 TB per user, Docs and Sheets, and Meet for 100 people for up to 24 hours with local recording.
Compared: Fastmail offers no editors or meetings; Google Business Starter has Meet without recording.
- Money-back guarantee and seat credits
Paid plans have a 30-day money-back guarantee, and removing users gives a prorated credit at any time.
Compared: Google reduces licences only at renewal and gives no refunds on annual plans.
- Audit trail and required 2FA
The organization monitor keeps admin events permanently with CSV export, and admins can require 2FA for every member.
Compared: Fastmail’s pages describe no way for admins to require 2FA, and admins see a four-week login log.
Things to know
- No SSO for mail yet
Proton Mail does not support SAML SSO or SCIM; Proton offers SSO for Pass, VPN and Lumo Professional only.
- Admins cannot export every mailbox
Each user exports their own mail with the free Export Tool, but there is no admin export across mailboxes and no eDiscovery, and admins cannot open private users’ mailboxes.
Workaround: Ask each user to run the Export Tool, or keep mail with retention policies on Workspace Premium.
- IMAP through the Bridge app
IMAP works through the Proton Mail Bridge desktop app on paid plans, POP3 is not offered, and no public mail or admin API is stated.
- No EU region choice
Proton markets Swiss jurisdiction; a choice of data region is not stated, and the DPA limits transfers to Switzerland, the EU and adequate countries where possible.
Pricing reality
Proton bills per user per month, with storage pooled across the organization and shared by Mail and Drive. Mail Essentials stops at 15 GB per user and storage grows only by adding users, so our scenario needs Workspace Standard: 5 × $12.99 = $64.95 a month on annual terms (computed), before tax, or $74.95 month to month. Workspace Premium (3 TB, retention, Scribe and Lumo Plus) costs $99.95 for five on annual terms (computed). Add-ons are priced on the pricing page: extra custom domains $1.40 a month, Scribe $2.99 and Lumo Plus $9.99 per user, a dedicated VPN server $39.99. Enterprise is priced by sales. Plans renew at the then-current price.
Exit path
Each user can export all mail with the free Export Tool as EML and JSON files, or as mbox through Bridge and a mail client; calendars export as ICS, contacts as VCF, Docs as DOCX or PDF and Sheets as XLSX or CSV. There is no admin export of all mailboxes and no public mail API. After cancelling, the plan runs to the end of the billing period; accounts over the free limits then lose the custom domain and have a year before data may be deleted.
