How we test code hosting and CI

Code hosting services keep your Git repositories, run pull request reviews and build your code in hosted CI. They all price per user, but differ in how many CI minutes each plan includes, what extra minutes cost, and which plan or add-on brings SSO, audit logs, security scanning and data residency.

We compare them on the same six indicators, read from each vendor's pricing, security and documentation pages:

  • Pricing clarity: whether every hosted plan is priced on the page, and whether the pages leave prices out or contradict themselves.
  • Free tier: private repositories, how many users, how many CI minutes, and whether those minutes need a card.
  • Price for 10 developers and 3,000 CI minutes: the lowest listed monthly cost for 10 developers with private repositories using 3,000 minutes on the default hosted Linux runner, with the assumption named where the page cannot settle it.
  • CI minutes and runners: minutes included on the entry paid plan, free self-hosted runners, and the price of extra minutes.
  • Compliance and data residency: the vendor's own SOC 2 Type II report, ISO 27001, and EU data residency.
  • Team and control: SAML SSO, an audit log, enforced reviews in private repositories, and a self-managed version you can buy.

Because SSO, audit logs and scanning sit on different plans or add-ons, prices are compared at one reference scenario and the arithmetic is shown. Each review says which pages it was written from and when. Where we have run a product hands-on, the evidence is on its page.
