What you're paying for

  • Saves engineering time (main value)
  • Compliance included

Unlimited storage with single sign-on, e-signatures and Box AI from the Business plan, and HIPAA and FedRAMP support on Enterprise.

Business, at $15 per user a month billed annually, removes storage limits and adds single sign-on, unlimited Box Sign e-signatures, Box AI and 1,500+ integrations, so a company can keep files, signing and simple workflows in one platform instead of several tools. Higher plans add unlimited external collaborators and activity tracking (Business Plus), then HIPAA support, FedRAMP Moderate and device trust (Enterprise), all bought online. Box publishes SOC 1 and 2 Type II reports under NDA and an ISO 27001:2022 certificate.

Review

Review from public pages

Written from Box's public pages (pricing, security or privacy, and docs) as read on Oct 16, 2026. We did not sign up, and no hands-on run is published yet.

What the public pages show

We read Box's US pricing page in a browser (plain requests got a bot check), its plan comparison table, the free trial page, the trust center and the ISO certificate it links, the HIPAA and HITECH FAQ, and Box docs on shared links, trash, File Request, mobile security settings and Box Zones on Oct 16, 2026, and checked the table against the Internet Archive copy of the page from Oct 12, 2026, which matches. We did not sign up, start a trial or call the API for this review.

The pricing page lists annual and monthly prices for every plan up to Enterprise: Business Starter $5 and $7, Business $15 and $20, Business Plus $25 and $33, and Enterprise $35 and $47 per user a month, each with a three-user minimum. Enterprise Plus shows $50 on annual billing only, and Enterprise Advanced has Buy now and Contact us buttons without a price.

Some costs are not on the page. Business lists external collaborators as "pay per each" without a price, and the Box Zones, Governance, KeySafe and Shield add-ons show a dollar sign rather than an amount. The trial page title says 14 days; the page does not say whether a card is needed.

Strengths

  • Unlimited storage at $15 per user

Business and every plan above it list unlimited storage, so a growing archive does not change the price.

vs Dropbox: Dropbox Standard pools 3 TB plus 1 TB per active license; Google Business Standard pools 2 TB per user.

  • SSO on Business

Active Directory and SSO integration is checked on Business ($15 per user billed annually), with custom branding, data loss protection and sharing permission controls.

vs Dropbox: Dropbox starts single sign-on on Advanced ($24 per user billed yearly).

  • Link controls on paid plans

Shared links can carry a password and an expiration date on any paid account, link viewers can be kept from downloading or previewing, and File Request collects uploads on business plans.

vs Google Drive: Google Drive lists no link passwords or file requests.

  • E-signatures and integrations included

Business includes unlimited Box Sign e-signature requests, 1,500+ integrations and an MCP server for third-party AI agents.

  • Wide certification list

The trust center lists SOC 1 and 2 Type II reports, ISO 27001:2022, FedRAMP High authorization, PCI DSS and HIPAA documents; FedRAMP Moderate support starts on Enterprise.

Compared: pCloud lists ISO 27001 but no SOC 2 report.

Things to know

  • External collaborators on Business

The plan table lists external collaborators on Business as requiring paid accounts ("pay per each") without a price; Business Plus and up allow unlimited external collaborators.

Workaround: The pricing FAQ says shared links can be opened by anyone, even people without a Box account.

  • HIPAA starts on Enterprise

Box signs BAAs for Enterprise, Enterprise Plus and Enterprise Advanced accounts; Enterprise is $35 per user billed annually and can be bought online.

Workaround: An enterprise admin can request the BAA from the Admin Console.

  • Shorter default trash window

Trash keeps deleted items for 30 days by default, and Business keeps 50 versions of each file.

Workaround: Admins of business accounts can lengthen the trash period, and support can recover purged content for 14 more days on paid accounts.

  • Activity tracking and device controls on Business Plus

Full user activity tracking, mobile security controls and admin role delegation are checked from Business Plus ($25 per user billed annually), not Business.

Workaround: Business includes advanced user and security reporting.

Pricing reality

Box bills per user with a three-user minimum on every business plan, and the page shows 25% savings for annual billing. For our scenario, 10 users on Business cost 10 × $15 = $150 a month billed annually, or $200 billed monthly (computed), before tax, with unlimited storage. Business Starter ($5) is limited to 10 users and 100 GB, so it does not cover 2 TB. Costs rise with Business Plus ($250 a month for 10 users, computed) for unlimited external collaborators and activity tracking, with Enterprise ($350, computed) for HIPAA, and with add-ons such as Box Zones, Governance, KeySafe and Shield, which have no listed price. Extra API calls and AI Units are sold as platform add-ons on annual contracts.

Exit path

Desktop and mobile access are on every plan, and the Box API is documented, so files can be copied out with standard tools. Box support describes FTPS for occasional bulk downloads on business and enterprise accounts, except trial accounts. Content purged from the trash can be recovered by support for 14 days on paid accounts.
