Review
Review from public pages
Written from SendGrid's public pages (pricing, security or privacy, and docs) as read on Oct 15, 2026. We did not sign up, and no hands-on run is published yet.
What the public pages show
We read SendGrid's pricing page and docs, and Twilio's security overview, DPA and HIPAA pages, on Oct 15, 2026; we did not sign up for this review. SendGrid's own site now sends visitors to twilio.com, and the free plan has become a 60-day trial: 100 emails a day, no card, available once. The quickstart lists the steps before a first send: turn on two-factor authentication, which SendGrid requires, create an API key and authenticate a domain. Upgrading also needs a card on file.
The pricing page publishes every volume step from 50,000 to 2.5 million emails. It does not publish the overage rate: the FAQ says overage charges may apply, and the support article on overage rates points back to that FAQ.
Twilio's compliance pages need a careful read. The Security Overview lists SOC 2 Type 2 for all services, but its ISO/IEC 27001 row covers Twilio and Segment services, not SendGrid. SendGrid is not on Twilio's HIPAA Eligible Services list (updated June 30, 2026). EU data residency is real data residency, not just an EU sending region, but it needs Pro, an EU subuser, a dedicated EU IP and the EU endpoint, and EU subusers cannot use the Activity feed.
Strengths
- EU data residency, not only EU sending
On Pro and Premier, EU subusers keep email events and recipient addresses in EU data centers; the docs list Frankfurt, Dublin and Amsterdam.
vs Mailgun: Mailgun lists an EU sending region; Resend stores data in the US even with an EU sending region.
- SSO and a dedicated IP on one plan
Pro at $89.95 includes SAML SSO, one dedicated IP with automated warm-up, subuser management and 1,000 teammates.
vs Resend: Resend charges $150/mo for SSO and $30/mo for a dedicated IP on its $90 Scale plan.
- 50,000 emails for $19.95
Essentials 50K is $19.95 a month and 100,000 is $34.95.
vs Mailgun: Resend’s Pro is $20 for 50,000; Mailgun’s Foundation is $35.
- Inbound parsing on every plan
The Inbound Parse Webhook is listed on the trial and every paid plan.
Compared: Postmark includes inbound processing from its $16.50 Pro plan.
Things to know
- The free option is a 60-day trial
The trial allows 100 emails a day for 60 days and can be used once; after that, sending needs a paid plan.
- Short activity history below Pro
Searchable email activity is kept 3 days on Essentials and 7 on Pro; 30 days needs the Email Activity history add-on, whose price is not on the pricing page.
- Overage rate not published
The pricing page says overage charges may apply but lists no rate, and the support article on overage links back to that page.
Workaround: The FAQ suggests moving to the next tier if you regularly exceed your plan.
- No ISO 27001 or HIPAA for SendGrid
Twilio's ISO 27001 scope names Twilio and Segment services, and SendGrid is not on Twilio's HIPAA-eligible list.
Pricing reality
SendGrid prices by monthly volume in fixed steps: Essentials $19.95 for 50,000 or $34.95 for 100,000; Pro $89.95 for 100,000, $249 for 300,000, $499 for 700,000, $799 for 1.5 million and $1,099 for 2.5 million; Premier is custom. The billing docs say payment is by card, monthly, with no annual billing; invoicing needs a committed spend of $12,000 a year.
What raises the bill: overage at a rate the pricing page does not list, extra dedicated IPs ($30 a month each in the invoice guide), the 30-day activity history add-on, email validations beyond the 2,500 on Pro, and paid support. SSO and EU data residency need Pro.
Exit path
Twilio's DPA says that on termination SendGrid content is deleted or returned at the customer's election. The Activity feed can be downloaded as CSV, within the retention window of your plan.
Compared with
- Pick SendGrid when
- You need EU data residency rather than an EU sending region, a dedicated IP included at $89.95, or inbound parsing on every plan.

- Pick SendGrid when
- You need EU data residency, or SSO and a dedicated IP included in one self-serve plan rather than as add-ons.
- Pick Resend when
- You want a free plan that does not expire, 30 days of retention on the $20 plan, and a SOC 2 report you download yourself.
- Pick SendGrid when
- You want fixed monthly plans with published volume steps, and to start sending without a production-access review.
- Pick Amazon SES when
- You want $0.10 per 1,000 with no monthly fee, ISO 27001 or a HIPAA BAA, or data kept in an AWS region you choose.
Choose it if
- You need EU data residency for email events and recipient data.
- You want SSO, a dedicated IP and many teammates on one self-serve plan.
- You need inbound email parsing on a small plan.
